Adult Carers Services
There are a number of Adult Carers Services offered by the Cornwall Carers Service.
Autism Carers Service
One of the newer services on offer from the Cornwall Carers Service and developing all the time.
The aim of the Autism Carers Service is to provide short term targeted support to carers of adults with autism across the county offering emotional support, signposting and referrals to other services. In addition the service also offers Advocacy, support completing DLA, Carers Allowance forms and Carers Assessments.
Black, Minority and Ethnic Carers Service
Cornwall Carers Service working with Unity Cornwall have recruited a specialist Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Carers Support Worker.
BME Carers have a right to an assessment and access to professional support. The BME Carers Support Worker is one of the specialist services being offered by Cornwall Carers Service to identify BME Carers living in Cornwall who often experience additional obstacles when they need to engage with health and social care services.
Dementia Carers Service
Dementia is used to describe different brain disorders, all of which share a loss of brain function that is usually progressive and eventually severe. There are a 100 or so types of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies, caused by the destruction of nerve cells in the brain.
Learning Disability Carers
If you care for a person with a learning disability, whether it’s your son or daughter, brother or sister, parent, partner or other relative or friend, these pages are for you. Here you’ll find useful information on caring for someone with a learning disability, which aims to make the challenges faced by carers a little easier.
Mental Health Carers Service
Mental ill-health affects one in four of us at some point in our lives and can cover a range of conditions, from the mild to the severe. Depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, obsessions, phobias, as well as misuse of alcohol and drugs are just a few of the most common mental health problems.
Mental health conditions can leave sufferers confused and isolated, in turn leading to profound feelings of despair and even thoughts of suicide.
