Open to all informal and unpaid carers the Carers Forums are being set up across Cornwall in each of the nine new Health and Social Care hubs to provide an avenue for information and guidance.

They also offer the opportunity for Carers to share and highlight concerns and feed them back through the Carers Partnership Board, into the Health and Social Care Hubs, Community Networks and the Health and Wellbeing Board when appropriate. The Forums are a way to raise the awareness of issues and concerns experienced by carers and highlight the importance of the role they perform.

The forums will be held quarterly in each area having administration support to help organise and run them, and also to make sure reports and minutes are written and actioned properly.

There are four partners working together to deliver the Cornwall Carers Service.  The forums are organised and co-ordinated by Sarah Cochran who is employed by Carers Rights; they are not only responsible for the forums but also bring with them expertise in the field of learning disabilities.  They employ two specialist learning disability carer support workers to ensure the Cornwall Carer Service can provide specialist support where needed.

The Carers Forums can access the support of several specialist Carers Support Workers in addition to Learning Disabilities, including; Young Adult Carers, Mental Health, Autism, Black and Minority Ethnics, and Dementia.  Underpinning all of these is a team of dedicated general Carer Support Workers.

Carers Forums are open to all carers. To view the list of current dates, please click here.
