Getting back into employment – Support into training and work

Whether your caring role has ended or you are still caring, you may need support in returning to work or training after a period out of the workplace. There are many places that may be able to help you:

  • Find out if your area has a local carers centre or project which offers advice and guidance for carers wishing to return to work.
  • Ask your local authority for a carer’s assessment, which will take into account your wish (or need) to work.
  • Find out from your carers’ organisation, local authority or voluntary organisation what alternative care is available that would enable you to train or work.
  • Find out if local colleges or adult education centres give concessions to carers on benefits.
  • Call a learning helpline or careers advice service such as Learn Direct, Next Step (England)
  • Contact your local Jobcentre Plus and ask what help they can give you in looking at training or work opportunities.
