Cornwall Carers Service
Getting a Break
The STAR (Supporting Time Away and Respite) project enables carers to access respite breaks.
Whether you are experiencing burnout, facing a hospital appointment or surgery, or simply feel unable to continue without a break, STAR can help provide essential time to rest, recover and recharge.
What Support Is Available?
Residential Respite Care
Funding is available for up to 7 days (1 week) of residential care for the person you care for, allowing you to take a much-needed break from your caring responsibilities.
Respite at Home
Funding is available for up to 24 hours of care at home, or shorter bespoke respite opportunities through:
Home care services
Sitting services
Other suitable short-term support arrangements
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible if:
You are an unpaid carer in urgent need of a break from caring.
You are experiencing carer burnout, stress or are at breaking point.
You need time away due to your own health needs, such as hospital appointments or surgery.
You are not currently receiving any other respite provision from Adult Social Care.
Choosing a Care Provider
Carers can identify and choose their own respite provider.
The provider must have a Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating of Good or Outstanding.
If you are unsure which provider to use, the Cornwall Carers Advice Line can help you identify suitable local residential or home care services.
