Caring Together Cornwall Privacy Notice

1. Who we are

Caring Together Cornwall is a carers support service commissioned by Cornwall Council and led by disAbility Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.

We work with Barnardo's, Whitehead-Ross Social Work Ltd, Rethink Mental Illness and Alzheimer's Society to provide advice and support to unpaid carers.

Our responsibilities for personal information depend on the support provided:

  • Level 1 – Signposting: Helping carers find information, advice and services. Cornwall Council is the data controller and delivery partners act as data processors.

  •  Levels 2 and 3 – Prevention and carers support: Providing more detailed advice, assessments and support. disAbility Cornwall, Cornwall Council and the other named partners are joint data controllers for the activities covered by the partnership information sharing agreement, including specified updates to carers assessments in MOSAIC (Cornwall Council's social care records system).

The organisations have agreed arrangements for sharing and protecting personal information. Each organisation is responsible for meeting its data protection obligations.

2. What information we collect and why

We collect and use information needed to understand your circumstances, provide advice and support, arrange services and maintain appropriate records.

This may include your contact details, caring responsibilities, health or disability information, assessments, support plans and relevant information about the person you care for.

We may also collect information needed for the Carers Register, Emergency Carers Cards, short breaks, respite funding, training and other support. We only collect information that is relevant and necessary.

Where we collect information about the person you care for, we will also respect their data protection rights and provide privacy information where required.

3. Our lawful basis

For routine service delivery and information sharing, the partnership information sharing agreement identifies:

  • UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) – Public task, supported by the Care Act 2014.

  • UK GDPR Article 9(2)(h) – Health or social care, where special category information is necessary and the relevant legal and confidentiality requirements are met.

Newsletters and promotional emails about training and events are optional. We use consent for these communications, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

4. Where information comes from

Most information comes directly from you.

We may also receive relevant information from Cornwall Council, partnership organisations, professional referrers, health and social care services, or other people involved in your support where appropriate.

5. Who we share information with

We may share relevant information with Caring Together Cornwall partners and other organisations involved in providing your support.

This may include Cornwall Council, health and social care professionals, approved respite providers and safeguarding services where there is a lawful reason to share.

Information is shared through authorised systems, including MOSAIC and relevant provider case management systems. We only share information that is necessary and appropriate.

6. Keeping your information secure

We use secure systems and restrict access to authorised staff who need the information to carry out their work.

We follow appropriate data protection and information security procedures to protect your information.

7. How long we keep information

We normally keep your information for seven years after you leave the service, in line with our information sharing agreement.

Different periods may apply where required by law or the type of record involved. We securely delete or destroy information when it is no longer needed.

8. Your rights

You have rights over your personal information. These include the right to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct mistakes, and ask us to stop using or delete your information in certain circumstances.

Where we use your information to deliver services under our public task responsibilities, you have the right to object. We will consider your request and explain what happens next.
