Emergency Carers Card
Peace of mind if you can’t be there
If you're suddenly unwell or in an accident, this card lets others know someone relies on you — so help can be arranged quickly.

What is the Emergency Carers Card?
The Emergency Carers Card (ECC) gives peace of mind to carers worried about what would happen if they couldn’t get to the person they care for this could be due to:
Illness
An accident
Other Emergencies
If something happens, the card makes sure the person you care for isn’t left without support. Care can be arranged quickly so they can stay safely in their own home until the emergency is resolved or other plans are made.
How does it work?
Fill in the application form with details of two emergency contacts who could step in to help.
If they can’t be reached or assist, Adult Social Care will step in to provide up to 24 hours of emergency care for free.
What happens in an emergency?
If you’re unable to provide care due to illness, accidents or other emergencies:
Call the number on your ECC
Provide your unique ID number (located on the card)
The operator will access your emergency plan and:
Contact your emergency contacts, or
Arrange professional emergency care, if needed.
This ensures the person you care for is supported, even if you can’t be there.
